The Olive Mill was a wonderfully relaxing place to stay with a fabulous pool for the kids. The Mill has been renovated to create a building full of character and a delight to stay in. The views from the terraces are tremendous. Crete was a good island to explore, and we saw a lot in two weeks. It will be a place that we will have fond memories of.

Thank you for a fabulous holiday – everything at the Mill was perfect. Knossos and Iraklion were a good trip – a good idea to leave early to avoid the crowds. Chania is a lovely town by day or night.

We had a fantastic time. Falasarna beach was great. Mylos Restaurant in Platanias was excellent. We walked the Gorge in Samaria, which took some doing! Thank you.

Someone wrote in your book that heaven is a place on earth. We found it at the Olive Mill.

The Old Olive Mill is a place in heaven,
Quiet, peaceful, romantic place for us seven,
The Castle Cary Seven have had a wonderful time,
The last two weeks have been mighty fine,
We’ve all loved the pool and the views,
Hidden away from all the other news,
Pity the dogs and the cats have such a hard life,
Wish they were all loved and cared for, but ‘such is life’.

Like other folk before us, many must have wondered when they left the bottom road to wind up through the olive groves, quite where they were going!!
On arrival any doubt vanished. Straight away one is enveloped by the Mill.
We cannot describe how enjoyable our stay there has been, and can only half imagine the logistics and problems you must have encountered along the way in renovating this building, but the results are truly amazing!! Stephen, thank you so much for letting us use the Mill, it exceeded all expectations, and one day we hope to return to this lovely, friendly part of the world.

Great fun seeing the olives being harvested, this time of year has its compensations. Love Crete, and the Cretans are some of the nicest people we have ever met.

We should have gone to Crete a little earlier, as the weather was rather unsettled. Went to Knossos on the coldest day of our stay, but the weather meant we had it almost to ourselves, which was fabulous. We crammed a lot of things in, and saw sights not mentioned in your guide books. Decided to give the Samaria Gorge a miss, too late in the year, but went to the Deliana Gorge (nearer) instead. We had a lovely time, and hope to bring friends back with us next time for another painting spree.

(Note. The Samaria Gorge is generally closed between November and May each year due to the risk of ‘flash floods’ from the melting snow on the ‘White’ Mountains
