Imbros Gorge
The Imbros Gorge is located in the notorious Province of Sfakia. A shorter walk than the more famous Samaria Gorge (about 7km), but equally dramatic in terms of the ruggedness of its landscape, which starts in the village of Imbros, from where you walk down the gorge to a choice of tavernas overlooking the Libyan Sea. As a minimum take good quality trainers and water. The walk will obviously vary in time, but a brisk no stopping walk will take about 1½ hours, and a more leisurely walk up to 2½ hours. Not really suitable for children under about 10 years. Either of the two high season snack bar owners, or the permanent taverna owners at the end of the Gorge, will either arrange a taxi, or suggest that you sit in the back of their pick-up truck, for the spectacular winding uphill journey back to your car in the village of Imbros (current costs are between Euro 15.00 and Euro 20.00).
